Advising Information

Dear Student,

The International Programs Office would like to congratulate you on your choice to study at Fort Lewis College. Fort Lewis College has about 4000 students and is on a mesa that overlooks the beautiful town of Durango. Durango is a small town with plenty to offer.

If you plan to live on campus, you will be able to move into your FLC on-campus housing on August 28, 2008. Students who arrive prior to this time will need to make their own arrangements for accommodations in Durango. Please be aware of the fact that Durango is a tourist town and hotels fill quickly.

Please inform us of your arrival time and flight number as soon as possible. If you have any special needs that we need to know about ahead of time please forward that information as well. We will try accommodate everyone to the best of our ability and resources.

Arrival Information

International flights should be booked to Denver International Airport (DIA), Phoenix International (PHX), or Albuquerque International (ABQ), then a separate commuter flight to Durango's La Plata Airport (DRO).  Please keep in mind that most international flights arrive in Durango very late in the evening.  For this reason, we recommend that students plan to travel on August 27th OR EARLIER and stay in a hotel the first night(s).  You will be able to check in to your on campus housing during our International Student Orientation on Thursday, August 28th.  If you are living off campus, you may be able to arrange to arrive earlier in the week and move in to you housing immediately.  It is highly recommended that you arrive in Durango early in the week to have time to adjust to your surroundings before orientation.

If you have problems or are delayed, please call (970) 247-7650 and leave a message. We'll be checking that line often during the arrival week.

If you do not plan on flying into Durango (La Plata) Airport, please contact us  with your alternate travel plans. Durango is a four hour drive from Albuquerque and a seven hour drive from Denver. If you fly into one of these cities, you will need to rent a car or find alternative transportation to Durango.

International Orientation Program

The International Student Orientation will take place on Thursday, August 28th, 2008.  You will be contacted via e-mail AFTER you are admitted to FLC regarding the exact location of the orientation.  Please note that attendance at the International Student Orientation is REQUIRED--You must plan to arrive BEFORE this day so that you can attend the orientation  The following items will be addressed during your orientation meeting. A detailed itinerary will be provided upon your arrival.

If you are applying to Fort Lewis College as an independent international student rather than an exchange student from a partner school, you must contact the New Student Advising and Registration Office by calling (970) 382-6985 to be advised and registered into classes. You may also contact New Student Advising and Registration by emailing newstudentadvising@fortlewis.edu.

Courses that will be available for Fall 2008 can be found by going to https://webopus.fortlewis.edu, clicking on the "Class Schedule" link, choosing the appropriate term, highlighting a subject, then clicking the "Class Search" button. We will make every attempt to register students into their chosen courses when they apply. During the first week of class, you will have an opportunity to speak to advisors, make changes and explore other options.
